Papa Murphy’s is seeing success from its continued rollout of a new point-of-sale system. Same-store sales increased at company-owned stores for its latest fiscal year. While almost 900 of its 1,400+ locations have the new system, it will take another 18 months before the rollout is systemwide to all franchisees.
Pizza Hut Inc. is installing energy management systems from Entouch Controls at 500 of its company-owned stores, with plans to recommend the Entouch technology to its 5,800 franchised stores as well. The system includes a thermostat that communicates with the cloud through its own wireless network.

Office Depot has selected Teradata to serve its analytics needs across all of the company’s 2,000+ stores. The company will expand Office Depot’s enterprise data warehouse, enabling multiple users to query the database.
Walmart rolled out an updated website primarily geared towards providing shoppers with an easier, faster and more personalized online shopping experience. This consumer-centric approach, made famous by Amazon, aims to make shopping easier and to ultimately increase Walmart’s e-commerce revenue. New services within the revamped Walmart.com include a feature that suggests future product purchases related to previous purchases. In addition, the homepage will now be personalized for each shopper based on location and past searches, as well as a ‘My Local Store’ section that allows shoppers to see what’s going on at their local retail location. The mobile website version has also been enhanced for faster and easier use. The site will adjust its content and images to better fit the devices screen display. In the future, Walmart reportedly plans to include an even faster checkout process with fewer pages to click through, an upgraded store finder, and a more flexible screen.

A & P is now using IBM’s FlashSystem V840 to compress live data and speed access to larger data sources. The FlashSystem now integrates into a new Control Enclosure with IBM’s SAN Volume Controller data virtualization system.
