• Ahold-Delhaize announced Roger Wheeler has been appointed as President of Stop & Shop. Gordon Reid plans to retire in mid-2025.
• B & R Stores Inc. has promoted Mark Griffin to President and CEO. Pat Raybould will transition to the role of Chief Strategy Officer while remaining as Chairman.
• Rouses Enterprises LLC recently opened a new 40,000 sq. ft. supermarket in Picayune, MS.
• SpartanNash Company has promoted Paul Weis to VP, Distribution Finance. Dustin Manning has been promoted to VP Inventory Management. Justin Vire has been promoted to VP Cost Leadership. Kristen Porter has been promoted to VP, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.
• Stewart’s Shops Corp. plans to acquire Jolley Associates. The acquisition includes 45 Jolley convenience stores and is expected to close by the end of 2024.
• Village Supermarket Inc. reported its CEO and President, Robert Sumas, plans to leave the company on December 13 of this year. John J. Sumas will be appointed as the new CEO and Nicholas Sumas will be appointed as President and Chairman at that time.
• Wawa Inc. will open its largest location in mid-2025. The 8,400 sq. ft. convenience store will be in Hope Mills, NC.
• Weis Markets Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire Sunnyway Foods Inc.
Retail
• Bath & Body Works announced that its President, Julie Rosen, will leave the company. Her role will not be replaced.
• CVS Health reported it will lay off 2,900 employees, as it tries to cut costs.
• David’s Bridal has appointed Elina Villk as its new Chief Business Officer.
• Detering Co. of Houston Inc. has named Carlos Detering as President and COO.
• Floor & Decor Holdings, Inc. is opening four new stores this week in Davie, FL; Austell-Mableton, GA; North Kansas City, MO; and Turnersville, NJ.
• JCPenney Company, Inc. plans to hire more than 10,000 seasonal associates for the 2024 holiday season.
• Macy’s Inc. announced it plans to hire more than 31,500 full and part-time seasonal positions at its stores and distribution centers.
• Mango Inc. reported it will open its first store in Seattle, WA, next year.
• Nation’s Best Holdings LLC has hired Chad Wilson as Regional VP, East Region. Kim Peffley has been named as Regional VP, North Region.
• Nike Inc. announced John Donahoe will retire. Elliott Hill will replace him as President and CEO and will also become a Director.
• Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Holdings has recently opened 10 new store locations in Texas.
• PetSmart Inc. announced that J.K. Symancyk has stepped down from his role as President and CEO. Alan Schnaid has been named as Interim President and CEO.
• Salt Life reported it will close all 28 of its stores locations and will focus on its wholesale and e-commerce businesses.
• Target Corporation announced it has named Jim Lee as its new CFO. He succeeds Michael Fiddelke, who will remain COO of the company.
• UFP Industries has named Landon Tarvin to replace Will Schwartz as President of Retail, effective December 29, 2024.
• Uniqlo has named Clare Waight Keller as its new Creative Director.
Restaurant
• Arby’s has named David Graves as President.
• Chipotle has launched their first location in the United Arab Emirates.
• Chuy’s shareholders are set to vote on Oct. 10 on the proposed sale to Darden Restaurants. The company has already received 13 demand letters and two complaints from shareholders that the sale price was not high enough, yet the vote is expected to pass.
• McDonald’s is launching the Chicken Big Mac nationwide starting next week.
• Starbucks has announced that they are expanding their coffee farm network by adding two new farms in an effort to create more sustainable farming.
• Taco Cabana is launching a nationwide franchising program.
• The National Labor Relations Board has affirmed a previous ruling that former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz violated labor laws by making an implicit threat to an employee.
