Free Trial• Couche-Tard Inc. announced its President and CEO, Brian Hannasch, is retiring. Alex Miller, current COO, will take on the role effective Sept. 6.

• The Jim Pattison Group has acquired The Save Mart Companies.

• King Kullen Grocery Co. Inc. has promoted Tracey Cullen to Senior VP of Company Operations.

• Knowlan’s Super Markets Inc. has announced the promotion of Jason Herfel to President. Ed Doud has been promoted to VP of Technology, Data and E-commerce. Chris Thienes will assume the additional role of VP Risk Management.

• Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, Inc. announced that Todd Dissinger, CFO, plans to retire on Dec. 31, 2024.

• The Save Mart Companies has partnered with Shipt to offer same-day delivery to its customers.

 

Retail

• Best Buy Canada Ltd. recently opened its first Best Buy Express store in Surrey, BC. The retailer plans to open 167 Express stores across Canada, in the second half of 2024.

• Bob’s Stores Inc. has filed a petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

• Eastern Mountain Sports Inc. has recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

• Filson Company recently opened a new store location in Los Angeles, CA.

• IKEA North America announced it will open a new 80,000 sq. ft. store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, NY, in 2028.

• Nordstrom, Inc. announced it plans to open a new 30,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom Rack store in Houston, TX, in spring 2025.

• Pet Supplies ‘Plus’ Inc. plans to open at least 45 new Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash store locations by the end of the year.

• Von Maur Inc. plans to open its first Dry Goods store locations in Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia by the end of 2024.

• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. announced Sebastian James will leave the company in November.

• Chick-fil-A has launched a summer merchandise collection and the brand debuted a new permanent online shop that will feature all of the company’s merchandise collections.

• Craveworthy Brands has opened their first food hall in Chicago. The cobranded space features multiple Craveworthy brands concepts in one location.

• FAT Brands has named Jordan Chirico as Executive VP and head of debt capital markets.

• Restaurant Brands International is spending $15 million to acquire Popeyes operations in China and investing $30 million into Tims China.

• Smalls Sliders has signed a franchise agreement to bring 10 locations to Colorado beginning in 2025.

• Taco Bell is relaunching their Nacho Fries subscription while adding a new variation of the limited time offering.
