• SpartanNash Company has promoted Andy Smith to Senior Director, Merchandising for Produce and Floral.
• Sprouts Farmers Markets has plans to open six new stores in the Philadelphia area in the next two years.
Retail
• Amazon.com Inc. announced that it has named Panos Panay as Senior VP of Devices & Services.
• Banana Republic recently opened a store location in San Francisco, CA, that highlights its newest home collection.
• Evereve plans to open between 12 and 15 stores a year over the next five years.
• Guess Inc. announced that Maurice Marciano has left the company.
• Lamps Plus has appointed Jason Goldberger as CEO. He succeeds co-founder Dennis Swanson.
• Nordstrom Inc. announced it will open a new 24,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom Rack in Long Island, NY, in spring 2024. The retailer also plans to open a 30,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom Rack in Mason, OH, a 25,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom Rack in San Antonio, TX, and a 26,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom Rack in San Diego, CA, in fall 2024.
• Primark USA will open its first store in North Carolina next month. The new location will open in in Charlotte.
• The Sherwin-Williams Co. announced that Heidi G. Petz will serve as the company’s next CEO, effective January 1, 2024.
• Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc. announced a partnership with DoorDash to offer delivery from its Spirit Halloween stores.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. has named Tim Wentworth as the company’s new CEO.
• Walmart Stores Inc. has hired Rina Hurst as VP of Delivery Service Platform.
Restaurant
• A California bill that would have allowed cannabis dispensaries to act as restaurants has been vetoed by Gov. Gavin Newsom due to employees being exposed to secondhand smoke.
• BurgerFi will be opening their Better Burger Lab in New York City that will offer their traditional menu along with draft beer and limited-edition offerings that can’t be found elsewhere. The location is set to open in late December.
• Burger King has opened their first “Sizzle” restaurant prototype that features kiosks and dedicated areas and drive-thru lanes for mobile orders. It requires less space and dine-in seating can vary per restaurant. The company hopes to open 14 additional prototypes by the end of the year.
• Krystal has initiated a refranchising initiative as the company hopes to reach 500 total locations in the next few years.
• Paris Baguette has named Eric Lavinder as Chief Development Officer.
• PDQ has named Nina Franchina as Chief People Officer.
• Taco Bell is testing chicken nuggets in Minneapolis as the company plans to expand their menu focus on chicken.
• The FTC has proposed a new rule that will regulate extra fees and surcharges that are found at restaurants. Under the new rule, restaurants would have to notify consumers of all included fees upfront and this total with fees included must be the price that is advertised.
• Torchy’s Tacos will be adding unspecified security measures to their restaurants after diners encountered a Nazi group at a Fort Worth restaurant.
