Grocery, Supermarket, & C-Store
• Dot Foods Inc. recently opened a new distribution center in Ingersoll, ON.
• Harris Teeter Inc. reported grocery delivery is now available to customers across the Washington, DC, metro area.
• The Kroger Co. has started construction on its first Kroger Marketplace store. The 124,000 sq. ft. location, which will replace a smaller Kroger store nearby, will open in Plano, TX, in late 2024.
• Kwik Trip Inc. recently opened its first location in South Dakota. The store is one of six locations the retailer plans to open in the state by the end of the year.
• New Seasons Market will open a new store in Vancouver, WA, next month. The new location will be the 20th store for the grocer.
• Smart & Final Stores LLC announced its President, Scott Drew, is retiring from the company.
• Sprouts Farmers Markets reported it plans to open four new stores in November, in Visalia, CA, Woodland, CA, Charlotte, NC, and Henderson, NV.
• Wawa Inc. plans to open approximately 40 stores in Kentucky over the next eight to 10 years, with the first opening in 2025.
Retail
• GameStop Holdings Corp. reported Ryan Cohen was appointed as the company’s CEO, President and Chairman.
• HD Supply Home Improvement Solutions announced that Marc Brown has been named CEO of the company.
• Lands’ End Inc. announced Bernard McCracken who has been serving as Interim CFO has been promoted to the role.
• Lululemon Athletica Inc. and Peloton Interactive, Inc. announced a new partnership in which Peloton will discontinue its own apparel and will sell Lululemon’s apparel online and in its stores.
• Northern Tool & Equipment Co. Inc. reported it will open a new store location in Bossier City, LA, this week.
• Shoe Carnival Inc. announced that Patrick Edwards has been promoted to Senior VP, CFO, Secretary and Treasurer. He replaces Erik Gast who has left the company.
Restaurant
• Burger King franchisee Meridian Restaurants is selling 70 of their remaining restaurants after filing for bankruptcy.
• Fat Brands has acquired Smokey Bones for $30 million.
• Huey Magoo’s has opened their 50th restaurant in Arden, NC.
• Krispy Kreme has named Josh Charlesworth as President and CEO.
• Ike’s Love & Sandwiches has named Robert Lane as Chief Marketing Officer.
• Subway will be requiring all franchisees to accept digital discount offers by the end of the year. Currently franchisees are able to select which offers they want to honor.
• Taco Bell is adding vegan sauce to their nacho fries menu item. This will be the chains first ever national vegan item.
• Walk-on’s has named Chirs Porcelli as Chief Financial Officer and Jennifer Pecoraro-Striepling has been named Chief Development Officer.
