Supermarket, Grocery, & C-Store

Free Trial• Kroger has acquired Albertsons in a $24.6 billion deal. The deal has already been approved by each companies’ board of directors and they are awaiting regulatory approval. Both companies have plans to divest some of their stores before the deal is completed.

• Wawa Inc. reported it plans to expand into Georgia. The first store is expected to open in 2024, with the potential for up to 20 stores in southern and coastal Georgia in the future.

 

Retail

• Amazon.com Inc. reported it is planning to hire 150,000 employees throughout the U.S. for the holiday season.

• BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. has completed the move of its headquarters to a new location in Marlborough, MA.

• Camping World Holdings, Inc. is appointing Brett Andress as Senior VP, Corporate Development and Investor Relations.

• Discount Tire Centers Inc. has launched a high-tech store concept, called Pit Pass, that offers a mobile-focused, drive-thru experience.  The first location is in Flowery Branch, GA.

• Dollar Tree Stores Inc. and Family Dollar Stores Inc. plan to hire thousands of associates during a nationwide hiring event on Oct. 19.

• Floor & Decor Outlets of America will open a new store location in Omaha, NE. It’s the company’s first in the state.

• Forever 21 Inc. will open 14 new stores across the country by June 2023. New locations are set to open in CA, FL, GA, IA, IL, MA, NV, PA, PR, RI, and VA.

• Nordstrom Inc. reported Edmond Mesrobian, its Chief Technology and Information Officer, is leaving the company.

• Orgill Inc. has announced plans to build an 800,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Tifton, GA.

• Sephora USA Inc. reported it will return to the United Kingdom online next week and will open a flagship store there next year.

• Tractor Supply Co. has closed on its previously announced acquisition of Orscheln Farm & Home LLC. Over the next 15 months, the 81 stores acquired will be remodeled to the Tractor Supply banner.

• Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. has opened a 10,000 sq. ft Ulta Beauty store in Rehobeth Beach, DE. It is the first Ulta location in an outlet mall.

• Vuori Clothing recently opened its first location on the east coast, a new flagship store in New York City.

 

Restaurant

• Culver’s Frozen Custard is bringing back their limited edition CurderBurger through the end of the month. The item had originally been an April Fool’s Day joke in 2021.

• Domino’s has sold 114 company locations to franchisees in Arizona and Utah.

• Huey Magoo’s has opened a new location in Brooksville, FL.

• Krispy Kreme has temporarily rebranded themselves as Krispy Skreme and introduced some new limited time doughnuts.

• Marco’s Pizza has opened a new location in Sterling, VA.

• Mountain Mike’s Pizza has opened a new location in Lewisville, TX.

• Taco John’s has named Mark Kocer as COO.
