• 7-Eleven Inc. reported it will sell 73 of its gas stations and convenience stores. The locations include 33 in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York, seven in Texas, several in the mid-Atlantic and Midwest, and some on the West Coast.
• EG America LLC reported that on-demand delivery from DoorDash is currently available from more than 800 of its stores, and it plans to expand the service to more than 1,300 locations by the end of October.
• The Fresh Market Inc. announced that Peter Mayes has been promoted to Group VP of Merchandising and Wade Yenny to VP of Center Store.
• Global Partners LP has acquired Tidewater Convenience Inc., which operated 14 fuel and convenience stores in Virginia.
• The Kroger Co. is opening a new 50,000 sq. ft. fulfillment facility in Birmingham, AL.
• Rusty Lantern Market has acquired Mallard Mart, which operates four stores in western Maine.
• Publix Super Markets Inc. reported that its VP of Finance, Gino DiGrazia, plans to retire at the end of this year. Linda Kane, the company’s VP of Benefits and Administration plans to retire early next year.
Retail
• Claire’s Holdings LLC is expanding its partnership with Walmart Stores Inc., making Claire’s products available in more than 2,500 Walmart stores and in 360 Claire’s store-in-stores at Walmart locations.
• Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. reported it will open four new Public Lands stores this fall, in Framingham, MA; Melville, NY; Kennesaw, GA; and Medford, OR.
• Do it Best Corp. announced Steve Markley, Exec VP of Operations will retire effective October 31. The retailer also reported Dent Johnson will serve as the new Exec VP of Operations. Nick Talarico will serve as the Exec VP of Sales and Marketing. Jason Stofleth will become the new VP of Merchandising.
• Gap Inc. reported it is eliminating about 500 corporate jobs.
• The Home Depot Inc. announced Molly Battin will join the company as Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer.
• Lids Sports Group recently opened a 12,000 sq. ft two-story flagship store in Las Vegas, NV. It is the retailer’s largest location to date.
• National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced Kate Ilahi and Whitney Jones have both been named to the role of Director of Government Affairs.
• Ralph Lauren Corporation reported it is planning to open about 250 stores internationally during the next three years.
• Vera Bradley, Inc. announced that Jacqueline Ardrey will join the company as President and CEO, effective November 1. She will succeed Robert Wallstrom, who is retiring.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. has named Hsiao Wang as Senior VP and Chief Information Officer of the company. He is taking over for Francesco Tinto.
• Walmart Canada reported it is planning to open its first distribution center in Quebec.
• Walmart Stores Inc. plans to hire about 40,000 employees for the holiday season.
• Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has appointed Jeff Howie as its new CFO. Julie Whalen who previously held the position is leaving the company. Alex Bellos, President of West Elm, is also leaving the retailer.
• Windsor Fashions Inc. recently opened its first location in Manhattan. The 4,000 sq. ft store is located in the city’s SoHo area.
Restaurant
• Bloomin’ Brands Inc. has named Suzann Trevisan as Chief Human Resources Officer.
• Chipotle has agreed to pay $7.75 million settlement in New Jersey over child labor law violations.
• Crave Hot Dogs & Barbecue have opened a new location in Kings Mountain, NC.
• Farmer Boys will be opening a new location this fall in Tolleson, AZ.
• Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. have updated their brand colors and design. The new designs will be reflected in uniforms, signage, packaging, and restaurant design.
• Marco’s Pizza has hired Gerardo Flores as Chief Development Officer. The company has also opened new locations in Summit, MO and Conway, SC.
• MOD Pizza has promoted Becky Mulligan to Chief Restaurant Officer. Stephen Blum has been appointed to Chief Development Officer. The company has also appointed Cynthia Richardson as VP of Franchising, Scott Uehlein as VP of Culinary Excellence, and Ben Coarde has Regional VP of Operations.
• Slim Chickens is planning to add 29 stores to Kentucky beginning this year.
• Taco Bell is testing Beyond Carne Asada at select restaurants.
