• Wawa Inc. announced that it plans to open its first store in Alabama, located in the city of Fairhope, in 2024.

• Wegmans Food Markets Inc. announced it will open its first supermarket in Connecticut.

 

Retail

• Amazon.com Inc. recently opened its first Amazon Go convenience store in Southern California. The location is in Whittier, and the retailer announced another location is coming soon to Torrance.

• Belk Inc. has named Don Hendricks as CEO of the company.

• BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. opened its newest store location in Canton, MI.

• The Carter Lumber Co. announced that it has purchased a facility near Myrtle Beach, SC that will house a new component and millwork manufacturing plant. This will be the company’s 14th manufacturing plant and the company’s first in South Carolina.

• Hermes USA has signed a lease for a 7,000 sq. ft. store at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, GA, that it intends to open in the second quarter of 2024.

• Home Hardware Stores Limited announced that Marianne Thompson has been appointed to the new role of Chief Commercial Officer.

• Hudson’s Bay Company has named Sophia Hwang-Judiesch as President. She will succeed Wayne Drummond, who is retiring.

• Lands’ End Inc. reported that Andrew McLean will become CEO of the company beginning Nov. 1. He will succeed Jerome Griffith, who will retire on Jan. 27 and transition to the role of Executive Vice Chairman.

• Lowe’s Companies Inc. has expanded its partnership with Instacart and is now making same-day delivery available from more than 1,700 Lowe’s stores across the country.

• Nordstrom Inc. announced it plans to open three new Nordstrom Rack locations in fall of 2023. Two of the new stores will be located in Washington and the third will be in Oregon.

• Qurate Retail Group announced Soumya Sriraman has been hired as President of Streaming for HSN and QVC, Inc.

• R.P. Lumber Co. Inc. announced that it has acquired Southwest Builder Supply.

• Von Maur Inc. plans to open a two-level, 118,000 sq. ft. store at South Hills Village, in Pittsburgh, PA. Scheduled to open in fall 2024, the store will be the retailer’s first location in Pennsylvania.

• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. has named Hsiao Wang as CIO. He joins the retailer from The Michaels Company and succeeds Francesco Tinto.

• Windsor Fashions Inc. has opened its first store in Manhattan. The 4,000 sq. ft. store is in the SoHo area.

• Dairy Queen has named Nicolas Boudet as International COO.

• Donatos Pizza has hired Jodie Conrad as Chief Marketing Officer.

• FB Society has hired Brad Leist as CFO.

• Huey Magoo’s has opened a new location in Hinesville, GA.

• Mountain Mike’s Pizza has opened  a new location in Spanish Fork, UT.

• Starbucks has entered the metaverse and allows customers to obtain tokens and NFTs through virtual games that can be exchanged for real life items. The company is also planning to invest $450 million in store upgrades.
