• Apple Inc. announced it has temporarily closed all its stores in Michigan due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

• CVS Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. and Walmart Stores Inc. are now selling over the counter at home COVID-19 tests.

• Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation announced that 20 of its stores in Ontario will begin to provide 24-hour vaccinations.

• Target Corporation is piloting a new sortation center in Minneapolis, MN, that streamlines the process of fulfilling digital orders from stores.

• Walmart Stores Inc. announced that it plans to have the majority of its U.S. hourly employee workforce full time by the end of its current fiscal year.

 

Restaurant

• Captain D’s Seafood Kitchen has reopened their Tupelo, MS location after it was destroyed by fire. The rebuilt location will feature the brand’s first double drive-thru in an effort to meet higher off-premises demand from COVID-19.

• Dog Haus International LLC has added two new virtual brands, Jailbird and Big Belly Burgers, to their existing stable of three virtual brands.

• Nathan’s Famous Inc. will be adding 60 delivery-only locations in the U.S. and 40 in Canada by the end of the year through their partnership with Walmart and Ghost Kitchen Brands. The new locations will be located within Walmart stores.

• Panera Bread has abandoned their in-house delivery option and will now focus exclusively on third-party delivery.

• Peet’s Coffee & Tea Inc. is facing worker strikes at a Chicago location after safety measures came under fire when a worker tested positive for COVID-19.

• President Joe Biden is offering a tax credit to businesses that offer employees paid time off for vaccinations. Many restaurants began providing time off for vaccination earlier this year.

• Saladworks Inc. has partnered with Walmart Canada and Ghost Kitchen Brands to provide delivery from within select Walmart stores.
