• BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. announced fresh and frozen grocery items are now included as part of the buy online, pick up in-club service at all of its locations.
• Tawa Supermarkets Inc. is teaming up with Instacart to have groceries delivered from their 99 Ranch Market stores to a customer’s door in as fast as one hour.
Retail
• Columbia Sportswear Company announced that it would permanently shut down a “small number” of stores but did not specify a number. So far this year, it has closed eight stores in the United States.
• Pet Valu Canada Inc. announced that due to the impact from COVID-19, it plans to close all its 358 stores and warehouses in the U.S. as well as its corporate office in Wayne, PA.
• Sam’s Club is launching on-demand delivery of prescription drugs via a partnership with DoorDash.
Restaurant
• Aloha Poke is partnering with REEF to develop their very first ghost kitchens. Ghost kitchens will allow the company to expand into new markets and will be available through third-party ordering apps.
• Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has opened their first ghost kitchen location in Chicago, IL. The ghost kitchen location will take orders through the company’s website, app, and third party companies.
• Greens Restaurant Group LLC will be removing 20% of their corporate workforce. The reorganization comes after many of the company’s restaurants have remained closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Huey Magoo’s Restaurants LLC has added a mobile ordering app that will allow customers order and pay for curbside and delivery orders.
• Mendocino Farms is opening their first ghost kitchen in Long Beach, CA next week.
• The Wendy’s Company is considering expanding with drive-thru only restaurants after seeing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
