• Amazon.com Inc. has opened its second Amazon Fresh grocery store, located in Irvine, CA.
• Publix Super Markets Inc. plans to add a dry grocery warehouse, which will bring another 1.2 million sq. ft. of space, to a new distribution center being built in Greensboro, NC.
• Southeastern Grocers has opened its first Fresco y Más store in southwest Florida, located in Lehigh Acres.
• US Foods Inc. announced Bill Hancock has joined the company as Exec VP and Chief Supply Chain Officer.
• Yesway announced it plans to rebuild 27 existing Allsup’s stores, perform upgrades to more than 100 additional Allsup’s stores, and convert several existing Yesway stores in Texas to the Allsup’s brand.
Retail
• Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has named Elizabeth Meltzer as Senior VP, GMM Bed, Bath and Home Décor.
• Crocs Inc. announced Foot Locker Inc. and Finish Line Inc. as new retail partners.
• Gap Inc. expects to close approximately 30% of its Gap and Banana Republic stores in North America by the end of fiscal 2023 (early 2024), with about 75% of the closures to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2021. A total of about 350 stores will be closed.
• L & W Supply announced that Luis Godinez has been promoted to Branch Manager at its Ogden, UT, branch.
• Lids Sports Group has opened its largest store yet. The nearly 7,000 sq. ft. store is at Pier 39 in San Francisco, CA.
• Nordstrom Inc. will open two more Nordstrom Local stores in the Los Angeles, CA, area. A location in Manhattan Beach, NY, will follow in the coming months.
• Old Navy is planning to open 30 to 40 new stores annually.
• PVH Corp. has named Linh Peters as its new Global Chief Marketing Officer of Calvin Klein.
• Ross Stores Inc. announces the recent opening of 30 Ross Dress for Less and 9 dd’s Discounts stores across 17 different states in October.
• Rue 21 announced the appointment of Bill Brand as CEO.
• Spice & Tea Exchange is looking to grow its presence in New York through new franchisees.
• Tapestry Inc. announced it has named Joanne Crevoiserat as CEO.
• Uniqlo opened its first location in Quebec at the Eaton Centre. The 32,000 sq. ft. store will be the company’s biggest in Canada.
• Westlake Hardware Inc. plans to open a new location in St. Louis, MO, early next year.
Restaurant
• Artichoke Basille’s Pizza will open a new location in Red Bank, NJ during the holiday season.
• Freddy’s Frozen Custards & Steakburgers announced that Frederick L. Simon, the namesake and co-founder of the chain, passed away on October 25, 2020. Freddy Simon opened the chain’s first location in 2002.
• Delivery platform Grubhub is facing a lawsuit for listing over 100,000 restaurants on their app and website that did not agree to do so. California has recently made the practice illegal and companies have claimed the practice hurt sales.
• KFC has brought back their fried chicken-scented firelogs that will be sold through an exclusive partnership with Walmart.
• FOCUS Brands Inc. hired Sean Wooden to the role of VP and Managing Director of Focus Brands International.
• Pizza Guys is opening a new location in Stockton, CA.
• Zaxby’s has launched a new chicken sandwich and declared that the chicken sandwich war started by their competitors late last year is not over. The company has also outfitted employees with new uniforms that resemble military fatigues that feature white and black chicken designs to celebrate the launch.
