Supermarket, Grocery, & C-Store
• Albertsons LLC announced it will acquire 27 Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s Food Lover’s Markets stores. Plans call for the upscale Kings and Balducci’s grocery stores to retain their banners and become part of Albertsons’ Mid-Atlantic division.
• C & S Wholesale Grocers Inc. has appointed Bob Palmer as CEO, succeeding Michael A. Duffy in the role.
• Earth Fare Healthy Supermarkets has been reopening some store locations. So far 13 stores have opened in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and Michigan.
• KeHE Distributors recently opened its newest distribution center in North East, MD.
• Save-A-Lot announced four of its supermarket locations in Nashville, TN, have been acquired by J. Word Enterprises LLC, a local investor.
• Southeastern Grocers announced it is opening four new Winn-Dixie stores in Florida on November 11.
Retail
• Bob’s Discount Furniture has named Bill Barton as President and CEO. He will succeed Ted English effective Nov. 3.
• Dollar General Corp. is launching a new retail concept aimed at a more upscale shopper. The new format, called Popshelf, will feature a non-consumable merchandise mix that includes seasonal and home décor, health and beauty essentials, cleaning supplies, party goods, crafts and more. Nearly 95% of the items will be priced at $5 or less. Stores will average about 9,000 sq. ft. The retailer expects to open approximately 30 locations in various markets by the end of next year.
• Gap Inc. announced the appointment of Nancy Green as the President and CEO of Old Navy.
• Leslie’s Poolmart Inc. has filed a preliminary prospectus for an initial public offering. The retailer intends to list its common stock on the Nasdaq Global Market under the ticker symbol “LESL”.
• Macy’s Inc. announced that Adrian V. Mitchell has been appointed CFO, to take effect November 2, 2020.
• Rite Aid Corporation has named Angele Robinson-Gaylord as Senior VP Store Development.
• Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. announced Frances Lukban was hired as VP of Content & Media Strategy, Mindy Torrey was hired as VP of Creative and Dorothy Jones was hired as VP of Category and Field Marketing.
• Urban Outfitters Inc. announced Margaret Hayne has been promoted to Co-President and will remain Chief Creative Officer. Frank Conforti has been promoted to Co-President and COO. Sheila Harrington has been promoted to CEO of the Free People Group. Hillary Super has been promoted to CEO, Anthropologie Group. Azeez Hayne has been promoted to Chief Administrative Officer and will remain General Counsel. David Hayne has been promoted to CTO and will remain the President of Nuuly. Calvin Hollinger, COO, will be leaving the company at the end of the month.
• Walmart Canada announced it retailer plans to immediately hire 10,000 new associates.

• Doctor’s Associates Inc. has named Mike Kehoe as president of their new Europe-Middle East-Africa region.

• Mountain Mike’s Pizza has opened a new location in Cloverdale, CA.
• Panera Bread will begin labeling their food items based on carbon footprint.
• Taco Bell will now be offered through DoorDash after their partnership with Grubhub fell through.
