• Aldi Inc. recently opened its eighth location on New York’s Long Island.
• Amazon.com Inc. opened its first new Amazon Fresh grocery store concept in Woodland Hills, CA. The 35,000 square foot store will open to the general public in several weeks.
• Global Partners LP recently opened its fifth Alltown Fresh Market location in Schenectady, NY.
• Kings Food Markets Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
• Lidl US plans to open 50 new stores by the end of 2021. The stores will be located in DE, GA, MD, NJ, NY, NC, PA, SC, and VA.
• Pemm LLC has acquired a Mobil gas station in Brighton, NY, and will convert it to a Quicklee’s Travel Center.
• The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC is offering flu shots at its more than 250 pharmacy locations across the Northeast.
Retail
• Amazon.com Inc. announced Jeff Wilke, CEO of Worldwide Consumer Business, plans to retire from his position in the first quarter of 2021. Dave Clark, who currently serves as Senior VP of Worldwide Operations, will succeed Wilke in his role.
• The Bartell Drug Company announced that flu vaccinations are now available at its pharmacies.
• Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. said that it’s cutting 2,800 jobs at its corporate headquarters and stores, which is about 5% of its overall workforce.
• Builders FirstSource Inc. and BMC Stock Holdings Inc. announced that they have entered into a merger agreement. The deal is expected to close in late 2020 or early 2021.
• Crew Group Inc. expects to officially emerge from Chapter 11 in early September.
• Lord & Taylor announced it will now close 24 stores as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
• Michaels Stores Inc. has hired Michael Diamond as its next CFO, effective Sept. 1.
• The Neiman Marcus Group announced it is closing its store in northwest Washington, DC, as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
• Vitamin Shoppe Industries has appointed Laura Coffey as Exec VP, CFO.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. announced Cecilia Wu will be joining the company as VP Global Insights.
• Weyerhaeuser Co. announced that Russell Hagen will become Senior VP and Chief Development Officer.
• Zappos.com announced Tony Hsieh has stepped down as CEO. Kedar Deshpande has succeeded him.
Restaurant
• Clean Juice has named Amanda Hall as COO.
• Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. will be adding new items to its permanent menu and launching limited time items themed for the fall season.
• Curry Up Now is opening a new location Salt Lake City, UT. The new location will also feature the company’s new bar concept that will be attached to the restaurant.
• Pizza Hut CFO has resigned from the company and he has been replaced by Charlie Short on an interim basis.
• Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. announced that CIO Dean Cookson will leave the company on Aug. 28. No replacement has been announced.
• Zaxby’s has opened a new franchised location in D’lberville, MS. The location will open for drive-thru only followed by pick-up services soon after.
• Ziggi’s Coffee has signed a new franchisee deal that will open the company’s first location in Texas.
