Personnel Updates
• AmerisourceBergen Corporation (31) has named Leslie Donato as Exec VP and Chief Strategy Officer.
• CVS Health (198) announced Judy Sansone, Senior VP of front-store business and Chief Merchant, will be retiring in September after 42 years with the company. George Coleman has been named to replace her.
• Rite Aid Corporation (51) has named Heyward Donigan to the role of CEO. She succeeds John Standley, who will be stepping down from the position.
• SpartanNash Company (27) has appointed the company’s Chairman, Dennis Eidson, to the additional roles of Interim President and CEO. The announcement follows the resignation of President and CEO David M. Staples.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (105) has named Aaron Radelet as Global Chief Communications Officer and Senior VP.
Mergers and Acquisitions
• Vitamin Shoppe Industries announced it is being acquired by Liberty Tax. The deal is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Industry Insight
• Giant Eagle Inc. plans to add health stations from higi to 218 of its stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and Maryland. The higi stations offer free health screenings and health education tools and resources.
• Rite Aid Corporation is partnering up with telehealth company In Touch Health to introduce its RediClinic Express virtual care offering. Kiosks located in Rite Aid stores will use InTouch Health’s Solo virtual health software to connect patients with RedClinic clinicians using and audio/video connection.
• SpartanNash Company revealed the decision to exit its Indianapolis-based Fresh Kitchen operations. The company anticipates the transition to be completed by the close of fiscal 2019.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. is expanding its collaboration with health insurer Humana by opening three new Partners in Primary Care centers inside Walgreens stores in SC and MO.
Real Estate
• CVS Health will open approximately 100 stores this year and plans to open approximately 50 stores next year.
• Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. announced it has signed a lease for a 12,040 sq. ft. store in Herald Square in New York City, NY.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. announced plans to close approximately 200 U.S. stores.
Technology News
• Giant Food Stores LLC has launched the Giant Pharmacy app, which allows customers to request refills, transfer prescriptions and view their prescription history.
