In these days of mega mergers and partnerships, there’s no time like the present. Squarely in the middle of an estimated 18 month process to integrate (or close) 1,900 Rite Aid stores into the Walgreens ecosystem, deals still need to get done, and innovation continues.

Last week, with an eye on Amazon, Walgreens announced that it has partnered with Fed-Ex to offer nationwide next-day prescription delivery (at $4.99). In addition, same day delivery is now available in select markets under the program – Chicago, Dallas, and New York City in addition to a host of Florida markets, including Gainesville, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Tampa. And the number of same-day markets is expected to grow in 2019.

Also announced was an expansion of a partnership with Kroger to expand the Kroger Express store-within-a-store concept to another dozen Walgreens in Northern Kentucky, which will bring the total size of the trial to 25 Walgreens in 2019.

Keeping up with change within the industry can be difficult. Chain Store Guide’s Drug Stores & HBC Chains Database provides up-to-date industry data, including personnel listings, for more than 5,000 companies.
