Publix made a couple of announcements in recent weeks that are representative of its continued expansion in the Southeast.

On the logistics front, the company announced it will open its 10th distribution center and its first in North Carolina. Construction is expected to begin in early 2020, and the 1.8 million sq. ft. Greensboro facility will come online in 2022. When it’s up and running, the DC will serve the growing number of stores in North Carolina and Virginia.

In other news, Publix announced plans for the fourth in its new line of GreenWise Market stores, a 25,000 sq. ft. store that will open in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. The Sandy Spring GreenWise joins previously announced Florida locations in Tallahassee (opening in October), Lakeland (2019) and Boca Raton (2019). These four new stores represent the first GreenWise locations that Publix has built in a decade and feature a revamped approach to the specialty and organic space. Existing stores in Boca Raton, Tampa and Palm Beach Gardens represent the first iteration of the GreenWise concept.
