• Planet Fitness, Inc. (43) recently hired Eric Meisheimer to serve as its VP of Real Estate.
Mergers and Acquisitions
• Supervalu Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 19 Shop ‘n Save supermarkets to Schnuck Markets Inc. The stores are located primarily in the St. Louis, MO, area. In the deal, Schnuck Markets Inc. will acquire 15 in-store pharmacy locations and one stand-alone pharmacy which will remain open, and prescription files at 10 other Shop ‘n Save pharmacy locations that will be transferred to other Schnucks pharmacies in the area.
Industry Insight
• CVS Health has debuted a new in-store beauty format called BeautyIRL in four test stores, with two in Florida, and one each in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The new offering includes in-store beauty services provided through a partnership with Glamsquad. Services include blowouts, 30-minute makeup refreshers and skin care services.
• Stater Bros. Holdings Inc. announced plans to shut down its 22 SuperRx Pharmacies and sell the prescription records and inventory to CVS Health.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. announced it will be purchasing all pharmacy patient files and related pharmacy inventory from 185 Fred’s stores in the southeastern United States. Fred’s Inc. said that once the transaction is complete, it will still operate roughly 162 pharmacies across 600 stores.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. announced 8 Walgreens stores in and around Louisville, KY, will be getting retail clinics operated by Norton Health. The clinics, which already exist, will transition to Norton Healthcare in early 2019, when they will be named Norton Prompt Care at Walgreens.
• Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. and Sprint Nextel Corporation announced that they will be opening an additional 80 locations of Sprint Express at Walgreens stores, within the Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas.
Real Estate
• Athletic Republic recently announced it is planning to expand its health club network by 100 locations in the next three years, with a strategy to target new franchisees primarily in the Southern states.
• CVS Health opened a new retail distribution center in Kansas City, MO.
