• Dollar General is trialing new scan-and-go technology that lets customers see a running total of their baskets and provides real time alerts to potential savings on the items they are purchasing.
• Five Below is rolling out a new POS solution this year that it will streamline checkout and permit the retailer to introduce its first loyalty program.
• Sam’s Club has a new 32,000 sq. ft. Dallas concept store in the works that will feature cashier-less checkout and other technological innovations. It’s seen as a response to the Amazon Go concept.

• Ahold Delhaize launched Peapod Digital Labs, a digital solutions company, and appointed JJ Fleeman as President of the new organization and Chief E-commerce Officer of Ahold Delhaize USA.
• Albertson’s is trialing Amazon-Go style technology as it appointed Gautam Kotwal (previously with Kohl’s and Netflix) to the newly created position of EVP and Chief Data and Analytics Officer.
Department/Apparel
• Lululemon recently reported Q1 e-commerce sales up 60% compared to the prior quarter which itself had a 44% rise. The company will rollout instore pickup of online purchases in the second half of the year.
• Macy’s, Inc. appointed Naveen Krishna as its new Chief Technology Officer.
Hardware & Home Improvement
• Home Depot will drop $1.2 billion over the next 5 years to realign its supply chain, which includes adding 170 distribution facilities and direct fulfillment centers.
