Personnel Updates
• Ahold Delhaize-owned subsidiary Peapod announced that its president, Jennifer Carr-Smith, has resigned. Walt Lentz, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Peapod, will become President on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named.
• The Fresh Market named Larry Appel President and CEO.
• The Kroger Co. announced that Scott Hays, current VP Operations for the company’s Fry’s division, has been named President of Kroger’s Michigan division, succeeding the retiring Jayne Homco.
• Lunds & Byerlys named Pam Osborn CFO, effective 9/18/2017.
• Publix Super Markets announced that Erik Katenkamp has been name VP of Omnichannel and Application Development, Alison Midili Smith, its VP of Human Resources, has been promoted to Senior VP Human Resources, Marcy Benton, Director of Retail Associate Relations, promoted to VP of Talent Management and Woody Rayburn promoted to VP of Real Estate Assets.
Industry Insight
• Aldi will partner with Instacart for grocery delivery.
• The Kroger Co. is testing a home delivery service for groceries with vendor The Grocery Runners in its hometown market of Cincinnati. The fee-based service is one of several vendors the company has tested for delivery.
Real Estate
• Lucky’s Market will open its first store in the Denver, CO market in 2019. The company currently operates 24 locations.
• Stewart’s Shops Corp. is opening one new location while rebuilding 10 existing locations in New York state; these projects are included within the company’s $50 million investment in 2017.
Mergers and Acquisitions
• Enmarket Stations Inc. will acquire Clyde’s Market Inc. which has 36 locations throughout southeast Georgia.
