Food Lion executives have announced plans to invest more than $170 million in remodeling 93 stores in the North Carolina Triad region (greater Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point) over the course of the spring and summer. The initiative marks the fifth market in which Food Lion has revamped a significant portion of its store since 2014. Completed markets include Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington and Greenville, NC.
This round of Food Lion remodels comes as the company sizes up the Lidl threat. Lidl has been active in the Triad’s real estate market, and the company has confirmed that it expects to open its first US stores this summer in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Leveraging store-level data from our custom-solutions Locations Database to augment information obtained from Food Lion, the map above charts the 93 remodels by zip code. Details on Food Lion and hundreds of other retailers planning remodels in 2017 can also be found in CSG’s Leading Chain Tenants Database.
Digging deeper, the Chain Store Guide locations database contains geocoding and addresses for these and all of Food Lion’s 1,000+ locations. This data affords the ability to precisely map (to an even more refined street-level view) the entire Food Lion fleet. In addition, the database contains store-level data on approximately 36,000 additional supermarket and grocery locations (chains and high-volume independent grocers).
