Personnel Updates
• Brookshire Grocery Co. promoted four of its current executives into officer roles: Kyle McCoy was promoted to Exec VP, CFO; Holly Shotts was promoted to VP and Controller; Cindy Murphy was promoted to VP of Information Technology; while Curtis Wiggins was also promoted to VP of Information Technology.
• SpartanNash hired Yvonne Trupiano as Senior VP and Chief Human Resources Officer. Trupiano succeeds the retiring Jerry Jones.
• Publix promoted Jeff Chamberlain, VP of Real Estate to Senior VP of Real Estate and named Bob McGarrity, Publix’s Director of Construction, to VP of Facilities. McGarrity succeeds Dave Duncan, who is retiring after 42 years with the company.
• Tops Friendly Markets named Kristen Hanson VP of Center Store Sales and Merchandising and promoted Mark Lumadue to VP of Distribution.
• Whole Foods announced that Angela Lorenzen, VP and Executive Coordinator of Operations in Northern California, has been named its Pacific Northwest Regional President, overseeing 22 stores in British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.
• Unified Grocers promoted Christine Neal to Exec VP, CFO and Treasurer succeeding Michael F. Henn, who has retired.
Industry Insight
• Star Market is now delivering groceries in the Huntsville, AL, market through a partnership with GrubSouth. According to local reports, GrubSouth, which previously served restaurants in the market, plans to expand to additional zip codes and partner with other grocers in the region.
• Love’s Travel Centers has added Godfather’s Pizza inside 64 of its current travel center locations.
Real Estate
• Fresh Thyme Farmers Market announced plans to open a new store location in River Forest, IL.
• Kroger has opened a new Kroger Marketplace store in Franklin, IN.
• Sprouts Farmers Market announced plans to open eight locations during its first quarter 2017, including the company’s first location in Florida. Sprouts expects to open 36 stores next year throughout all of its fiscal 2017, including stores in the states of Florida, the Carolinas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
• Weis Markets, Inc. announced plans to convert 38 Food Lion supermarket locations to Weis Markets stores. The company has completed the purchase of these locations operating in the states of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, and plans to complete the conversion process by the end of October.
Mergers & Acquisitions
• Rouses Markets will acquire nine LeBlanc’s Food Stores locations in the Baton Rouge, LA, area. The purchase is expected to close in late October, 2016. All stores will be rebranded under the Rouses Markets banner.
