JCPenney Company, Inc. announced the company’s Chairman, Mike Ullman, retired on Aug. 1. Current CEO Marvin R. Ellison will take on the role.

Joe Fresh announced Mario Grauso is leaving the company to take the role of President of Holt Renfrew & Co.

Macy’s Inc. has named Elisa D. Garcia as its Chief Legal Officer, succeeding Dennis J. Broderick who is retiring.

Oscar de la Renta announced Peter Copping resigned as Creative Director.

PVH Corp. named Raf Simons as its first Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein.

Sears Canada announced that Carrie Kirkman is leaving her role as President and Chief Merchant to transition to an advisory role. The company also announced that industry veteran Heywood Wilansky has been appointed Senior Advisor for Merchandising, Marketing and Retail.

Under Armour Inc. announced that Leanne Fremar, Senior VP and Executive Creative Director, has left the company. The company also announced that Andy Donkin has been appointed as Chief Marketing Officer.

VF Corporation announced the promotion of Jim Pisani to the position of Global Brand President of Timberland.

Aeropostale Inc. is negotiating a potential sale to private equity firm Versa Capital Management LLC.

 

Industry Insight

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has announced plans to debut a new store prototype in 2017. The new concept will launch in the Polaris Fashion Place in Columbus, OH, and introduce new products.

Coach Inc. said it plans to reduce its presence in the wholesale channel.

DSW Inc. is expanding its kids footwear line to more than 200 stores in 40 states, or about half its locations.

Ben Moss Jewellers said it will close all of its 54 locations and has launched going-out-of-business sales.

Under Armour Inc. announced it would begin selling its apparel, accessories and footwear at all of Kohl’s Corporation’s stores beginning in March of next year.

 

Real Estate

Alex and Ani, LLC plans to open 27 new locations in North America by the end of 2016.

Cabela’s Inc. announced plans to open a 70,000 sq. ft. store at the Legacy at Journal Center, in Albuquerque, NM, in 2017. In addition, Cabela’s will open a 90,000 sq. ft. store in Chesterfield Township, MI, also in 2017.

Christian Dior Inc. opened its first standalone boutique in Atlanta, GA, located at 3070 Bolling Way.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. announced it is opening six new stores in the Houston, TX market this fall.

Lacoste USA has revealed its newly enhanced location in New York following a closure earlier this year. The revamped 2,000 sq. ft. store on Madison Avenue has returned. The brand is also planning to launch a new 3,400 sq. ft. store at the Westfield World Trade Center later this month.

Macy’s Inc. announced plans to close 100 of its department stores, about 15% of the company’s total stores. The closures are expected to happen in early 2017.

Patagonia will be opening a new 17,000 sq. ft. location in downtown Reno, NV. The new store will replace the city’s existing Patagonia Outlet Store and is expected to open its doors this November.

Trina Turk opened a new 4,500 sq. ft. flagship location on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, FL.

Under Armour Inc. announced it will be moving into the former FAO Schwarz store on New York City’s Fifth Avenue as soon as 2018.

Macy’s Inc. introduced the new navigational program Macy’s On Call, a mobile-operated website providing shoppers with all the necessary directional information to optimize the shopping experience.
