With 920 stand-alone PPG and Duralux stores in the US and Canada and $1.3 billion in revenue, PPG Architectural Coatings ranks second in the retail paint game behind market leader Sherwin-Williams (4,086 stores and $7.2 billion). Since the addition of approximately 500 stores in 2013 with the acquisition of the North American architectural coatings business of AkzoNobe, slow and steady store growth has been the rule. Expect more of the same in the near term barring the rollout of an accelerated store-opening strategy, which is at least possible as the company has a stated belief that organic expansion in the US and Canada is possible without cannibalization of existing-store sales.
