Mergers and Acquisitions

Kahala Brands announced the acquisition of the 260-unit frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry.

Private-equity firm TPG Growth has acquired the 177-unit San Francisco-based Taco Bueno Restaurants LP.

Togo’s Eateries Inc. announced that it will be acquired by private-equity firm Nimes Capital.

 

Industry Insight

Burger King will open its first restaurant in West Africa this month.

Burger King’s largest franchisee has grown larger thanks to a series of six deals that have given Carrols Restaurant Group Inc. another 46 locations in several states from Michigan to New Jersey.

Texas Chicken, a sister brand of Church’s Chicken, has opened the first of 70 planned restaurants in Thailand by 2023.

 

Real Estate

Wahlburgers will soon open its sixth location in Manhattan’s Times Square. The company announced that over the next five years it plans to open 100 to 150 more locations.

 

Technology News

Dunkin’ Donuts is testing on-the-go ordering and delivery service in some U.S. markets. In Portland, ME, 124 Dunkin’ restaurants will allow customers to order ahead of time through a smartphone application. About 19 cafes in Dallas are trying out delivery, and additional locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington also will soon start delivery services as well.
