The sprawling, busy metro area of Downtown Los Angeles will soon be home to a new specialty grocery store. Whole Foods will open its doors November 4th in the Eighth & Grand apartment complex, which is also not yet open. The long anticipated (and coveted) new Whole Foods will be close to 41,000 square feet and feature a full restaurant/bar and coffee bar. The store will offer grocery delivery to the residents in the apartment complex above it, plus 170 parking spots in its prime location in the middle of Downtown.
Whole Foods has been active with its new store strategy, attempting to venture into new types of diverse demographic areas. However, the new Downtown LA store will be right in its primary wheelhouse, and face competition from other newly opened stores. Smart & Final and CityTarget, as well as a few small specialty grocers in Downtown, are in close proximity to the new Whole Foods.
While the zip code of the new Eighth & Grand apartments (90017) only has the few aforementioned food stores, the city of Los Angeles features many supermarket locations. However, the trendy area has supposedly long coveted the ‘holy grail’ of supermarkets in Whole Foods, which will conceivably thrive in this new location.
