Chain Store Guide has just published the 2014 Databases of Retail and Foodservice Technology and each year in February we analyze and highlight the market share leaders in three Point of Sale areas: Hardware, Software, and Printers. The databases profile retail and restaurant chains that operate 25 or more stores. CSG has been analyzing and reporting these rankings for the past five years.

In the Retail industry IBM has been eclipsed by Dell for the first time since CSG has been reporting these rankings in the POS Hardware category.  Dell gained 1% since last year and now holds a 20% total share while IBM slipped to second place with a 19% share. EPSON continues to lead the POS Printer category, also gaining 1% since last year.  IBM places second in POS Software behind Verifone.

In the Foodservice industry, NCR holds the lead with a 19% and 22% share in POS Hardware and Software respectively. EPSON gained 1% since last year and continues to outright dominate the POS Printer category.
