Personnel Updates:

Ulta Beauty has named Scott Settersten CFO and assistant secretary, effective immediately. Settersten will report to Dennis Eck, interim CEO. Settersten, a 15-year Pricewaterhouse-Coopers veteran, took over the post in October when Bruce Hartman left after a month on the job

 

Industry Insight:

Target plans to open clinics in three Chicago-area stores, part of a larger national plan to add 14 clinics this year, the company said. The facilities will treat minor illnesses and injuries, and provide services including camp physicals and acne treatment.

Walgreens opened the doors to its latest flagship location in the nation’s capital, bringing to District of Columbia residents and commuters the kind of retail pharmacy theater already familiar to citizens of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles

 

Green Initiatives:

Walgreens will build what the company believes is the nation’s first net zero energy retail store. The proposed store, in Evanston, IL, will employ solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal technology, energy-efficient building materials, LED lighting and ultra-high-efficiency refrigeration. “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and leading the retail industry in use of green technology,” stated Thomas Connolly, vice president of facilities development.
