Brookshire Grocery Co. is looking for new locations for possible store growth throughout southern AR, LA and eastern TX during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run 15 to 20 years.  Major competitors include Albertson’s, Kroger and Walmart Supercenter.  A land area of five to six acres is required for freestanding locations.  The company prefers to acquire sites. 

 

Spartan Stores’ new Valu Land discount concept will add three to five new stores this fiscal year, and officials see the potential for the banner as an organic growth vehicle outside of Michigan.

Ann Inc. will open a 5,394 sq. ft. Loft store in Fort Worth, TX in the fall.
FGL Sports plans an aggressive expansion of its most popular banners and total retail space over the next five years while closing more than 100 underperforming stores operating under various names.
Gap Inc. opened a new 4,888 sq. ft. Athleta store in Town & Country Village, the retailer’s first in Texas. The company plans to open 50 Athleta stores by 2013. Gap Inc.’s online shop, Piperlime, will make its retail store debut this fall. The new 4,000 sq. ft. Piperlime store will be at 121 Wooster St. in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.
Golfsmith International Holdings Inc. has opened a store in San Antonio, TX. The store is the area’s largest-ever experiential retail golf store at 30,400 sq. ft.
88th location 10 new store openings and four relocations this year.
Hibbett Sports Inc. plans to open 55 to 60 new stores in fiscal 2013. The company also will expand approximately 15 stores and close up to 18 stores.
Kate Spade LLC plans to expand internationally, with store openings in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo planned for this summer.
Macy’s Inc. announced construction has begun on a 140,000 sq. ft. Macy’s that will anchor a new wing at Gurnee Mills, in Gurnee, IL. The department store is expected to open in late summer 2013.
Neiman Marcus plans to remodel it stores on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and in Bal Harbour Shops, Bal Harbour, Fla.
Saks Fifth Avenue’s OFF 5TH will open seven new stores in the next two years in Chandler, AZ, Chesterfield, MO, Wesley Chapel and Orlando, FL, Aurora, IL, and Las Vegas, NV.
Menards broke ground on a new project as the first phase of a $67.2 million retail shopping center in Garden City Kansas. The Menards store, which will encompass about 162,000 sq. ft.

Baskin-Robbins is seeking franchisees for the South Florida market and the San Diego area.
CKE Restaurants is seeking new franchisees for its Hardee’s brand in the greater Tampa FL market, with the potential for almost 90 restaurants in the market; the company is also seeking franchisees to open more than 35 new restaurants in the Charlotte, NC, market.
Corner Bakery Café will open 22 new locations in CT and RI in the next eight years.
Culver Franchising System will open its first East Coast location this fall with a restaurant scheduled to open in SC in September.
Dunkin’ Donuts announced a development agreement for 12 new locations in Denver, CO, by 2018.
Go Roma is focusing its initial expansion in the upper Midwest and is planning to open locations throughout Milwaukee and Madison, WI; Indianapolis, IN; Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, IA; Ann Arbor, Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI; and the southern suburbs of IL.
Jersey Mike’s opened its first location in MI.
Johnny Rockets opened its first UT location.
O’Charley’s Inc. closed 14 underperforming locations in AL, IN, NC, and WI.
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen hope to open 20 or more restaurants in the Indianapolis metro area over the next few years. Popeyes also plans to open 13 restaurants over the next 5 years in the San Diego DMA and is hosting an executive roundtable on June 27th in the market to discuss opportunities with qualified franchisees (www.ownapopeyes.com/sandiego).
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers plans to open 13 company-owned restaurants in 2012, including four Burger Works locations.
Taco Cabana has announced plans to begin remodeling all of its San Antonio and Houston locations with completion slated for this time next year.
Togo’s Eateries Inc. announced it is targeting Phoenix and Tucson AZ for franchise expansion.
