Personnel Updates:
Albertsons LLC announced that Karl Meinhardt has been named VP, Social and Digital Marketing. The social and digital marketing team includes Jana Jeffery, Digital Community Manager, with more than 18 years of experience as a marketing and technology professional for Fortune 100 companies and several emerging startups, and Elizabeth Perryman, digital content manager, who brings experience in public and media relations, having worked with companies throughout the Northwest. Combined, they bring 26 years of social, digital and marketing experience to the newly created team.
They join Dan Mackay, Director of Web Services, to form the company’s digital marketing team.
C&K Market said Thursday Doug Nidiffer will retire as President and CEO after 15 years and assume the new role of Chairman of the board. Succeeding him will be Greg Sandeno, who is currently VP and COO. In other changes, Alan Nidiffer will become Exec VP and CIO while continuing as corporate secretary/treasurer. Elizabeth Bauer will become Exec VP, Chief Administrative Officer, CFO, and general counsel. Terry Spencer will become VP Merchandising and Marketing, with responsibilities for procurement and marketing initiatives. Rocky Campbell will become VP Operations, with responsibilities for all store operations, store operational support, loss prevention and pricing.

SUPERVALU Inc. announced that Sue Klug, President of its Albertsons Southern California division, has announced she will be leaving the company this month, resulting in the appointments of new leadership in three of the company’s market areas. Replacing Klug will be Dan Sanders, current President of SUPERVALU’s ACME Markets division, based in Philadelphia . With the announcement, Keith Wyche will become the new president at ACME. He currently serves as the president of SUPERVALU’sCub Foods division. Brian Audette has been named President of Cub Foods. Pete Van Helden, Exec VP of Retail Operations, will be leaving the company this spring. Replacing Van Helden, Kevin Holt will join SUPERVALU as the Exec VP of Retail Operations in late May and will report to Herkert while working closely with Van Helden to ensure a smooth transition.
Tesco has appointed Jeff Adams, COO of Fresh & Easy in the US , to the position of CEO of Tesco Kipa in Turkey . At the same time, Tim Ashdown, who has been CEO of Tesco’s China business, will move to the US to succeed Adams at Fresh & Easy.
Mergers and Acquisitions:
Energy Transfer Partners and Sunoco have entered into a definitive merger agreement whereby ETP will acquire Sunoco in a unit and cash transaction valued at $50.13 per share, or a total consideration of approximately $5.3 billion, based on ETP’s closing price on April 27, 2012. The combined companies will create one of the largest and most diversified energy partnerships in the country, according to the companies, by expanding ETP’s geographic footprint and strengthening its presence in the transportation, terminalling and logistics of crude oil, NGLs and refined products.

Carlie C’s IGA 14 is looking for new store sites throughout its existing market of NC during the coming 18 months. The company’s stores have deli, meat and bakery departments and are usually between 24,000 sq. ft. and 45,000 sq. ft. in size in freestanding locations and strip centers.
Camellia Food Stores, Inc. is seeking sites for new locations throughout DE, VA, and MD. Its supermarkets occupy spaces of 17,000 sq. ft. to 25,000 sq. ft. in freestanding locations and power and strip centers.
Ronetco Supermarkets, Inc.’sShopRite banner is looking for new site locations throughout northwestern NJ and northeastern PA during the coming 18 months. Typical leases run 25 years with options. A vanilla shell and specific improvements are required. A land area of 10 acres is required for freestanding locations.
Weis Markets, Inc. is seeking sites for new store locations throughout MD, NJ, NY, PA and WV. The company will also consider existing or redeveloped shopping centers. A land area of seven to 10 acres is required.
Green Initiatives:
Brown’s Super Stores is taking steps to improve sustainability, including use of solar energy and LED lighting. The chain, with an Energy Star rating from the Environmental Protection Agency at six of 11 facilities, is also improving recycling and food recovery.
GXT Green, a division of Global Exchange Technologies, recognized Price Chopper Supermarkets’ sustainability efforts by including the chain in its 2012 GXT Earth Day Honor Roll.

Two Weis Markets’ stores received a “silver” certificate from the EPA’s GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership for meeting tough benchmarks on cutting refrigerant emissions that harm the Earth’s protective ozone layer and contribute to global warming.
