Personnel Updates:
CVS Caremark announced the appointment of Larry D. Burton to the position of SVP of Government Affairs. He joins the company from Business Roundtable in WashingtonD.C. where he was Executive Director.
Katz Group Canada appointed Frank Scorpiniti CEO, replacing Andy Giancamilli, who retired. Mr. Scorpiniti joined the company in April 2011 as COO after serving as SVP at Duane Reade.
Kinney Drugs announced the hiring of Jennifer Whalen as Director of Marketing and Steve Harris in the new position of Inventory and Replenishment Manager. Both will work out of the chain’s SyracuseN.Y., office. Category division manager Cheri Taylor has been promoted to the new position of Director of Retail Merchandising. Marc Baum has been promoted to Category Manager in GM, replacing the recently retired Sue Easton.
Regis Corporation announced that Randy L. Pearce has informed the Company of his intention to retire as President and as a member of the Board of Directors effective June 30, 2012, the end of the Company’s current fiscal year.  As previously announced, Paul D. Finkelstein will step down as Chief Executive Officer of Regis in February 2012.
Walgreens named 25-year veteran Robyn Peters Group VP of managed market sales, where she will lead all sales and account management activities in the company’s employer, health systems, health plans, government and small and individual payer segments, along with client retention, expansion programs and sales operations for Walgreens. Peters will report to Jeff Berkowitz, Walgreens SVP pharmaceutical development and market access.


Industry Insight:
CVS/pharmacy customers can digitally apply ExtraBucks Rewards to their ExtraCare Rewards card, eliminating the need to carry printed rewards into the store. The change is one of several enhancements to ExtraBucks. Customers also can customize benefits based on shopping interests and can scan coupons, deals and additional rewards.
Mergers and Acquisitions:
Walgreens and BioScrip announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Walgreens will acquire certain assets of BioScrip’s community specialty pharmacies and centralized specialty and mail-service pharmacy businesses for a total deal value of approximately $225 million.
Fantastic Sams Hair Salons said that it has been acquired by salon owner Dessange International.
Katz Group Canada has signed a definitive agreement to sell its banner pharmacy business Drug Trading and its franchise pharmacy business Medicine Shoppe Canada to McKesson for about CAD $920 million in cash.
Walgreens announced its acquisition of the prescription files and inventory from 33 Kmart pharmacies in 16 states.

Real Estate:

Sally Beauty Supply and CosmoProf stores offer beauty products and related supplies, as well as salon furniture and related products.  The retailer is seeking new site locations for its Sally Beauty Supply concept throughout CT, western MA and VT during the next 18 months, with representation by The Proto Group, LLC.  A lease generally runs five years and a vanilla shell is required, while preferred cotenants typically include fashion retailers and grocery stores.

Ulta locations offer beauty products, cosmetics and related accessories, as well as featuring a full service salon is store sizes of10,000 sq. ft. in malls and power and strip centers.  The company is looking for sites for new locations in southern IL and MO excluding Kansas City and the surrounding area during the coming 18 months, with representation by L3 Corp.
