Ace Hardware Corporation is the largest hardware cooperative based in the United States with well over four thousand retailer members.  Similar in functionality to a Buying/Marketing Group, Ace functions as a co-op serving only enlisted member retailers.

Retailer participants join as members and among many advantages receive rebates based on volume purchased through Ace.  As this is a co-op, retailer members are not in any way franchises.  Thus each Ace Hardware store looks different.  Storefront trade names are based on individual owner wishes.  While some member stores brandish the Ace name as part of their trade name, most do not.

As part of its formidable array of member services, Ace offers its retailers top notch private label products as well as well defined merchandising and marketing programs which give Ace stores a distinctive unifying tone.

As with Buying/Marketing groups, the key advantage to being an Ace member is becoming part of the pool ordering system through which independents can share in bulk product discounts that help them compete with big boxes and chains.  Ace co-op advertising allows a local independent to receive valuable mention on nationwide television commercials.

Internationally, Ace supports member retailers in nearly sixty countries.  These retailers visit the United States to receive training from Ace and to interact with US members.  In many of these foreign markets Ace stores are viewed by consumers as first class and Ace private label products are sought out as premium quality.
