Honolulu is an interesting market to analyze for prescription pharmacy market share data. At the top of the heap is CVS, Walgreens, and long time Hawaiian supermarket staple Times Supermarkets.  Things start to look anomalous when two-year market share trends are evaluated. Both CVS and Walgreens have lost share, even while both store counts have either increased or stayed stagnant.  Also losing share is Walmart and Sam’s Club, with losses of 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively.

So what does this mean, and who’s gaining ground in Honolulu retail pharmacy market? For starters, Times opened a new location and immediately gained considerable market share. In addition, smaller chains and independents (those with share under 0.5% share) also held there own and actually increased 0.5% year of year.
