Supermarket Grocery and Convenience Real Estate eUpdates:

7-Eleven is expected to reveal that it will open up to 200 new corporate stores in Ontariobetween 2012 and 2016, with a major focus on Toronto. The move would boost 7-Eleven’s stable of stores by almost 50% in Canada, where it now has 467 locations.
Kum & Go is looking to open at least five new locations in the Pikes Peak region. The company is also considering opening five or more locations in Colorado Springs according to proposals Kum & Go submitted to Colorado Springs and Monument officials.
Giant Eagle, Inc is seeking growth opportunities are sought throughout MD, OH, PA and WV during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run 20 years with options.  Preferred cotenants include Home Depot, Barnes & Noble, Kohl’s, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Target. 
Giant Food Stores, LLC plans to open four to six new stores throughout its existing markets during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run 20 years.  
Fairway, which has gone from being a New York City-based specialty grocery store to a company fast expanding into the surrounding suburbs, is scheduled to open a new store next week in Douglaston, Queens. The 56,000 square foot unit is slated to open on 11-16-2011.  The company says it expects to have 11 stores open by the end of the year, driven largely by investment capital from Sterling Investment Partners, which took a majority ownership position in the company in 2007, pledging to open as many as two stores a year.
Metropolitan Market is planning for a new store opening in Seattle, WA during the coming 18 months.  Preferred demographics include a population of 30,000 within two miles.  The company prefers to locate in areas with high vehicle and foot traffic counts. 
Foodmaster Super Markets is seeking growth opportunities throughout the greater Boston, MA area during the coming 18 months. 
J.H. Harvey Co. is seeking growth opportunities throughout its existing markets during the coming 18 months. 
King Kullen Grocery Co. Inc. is seeking growth opportunities throughout NJ and NY during the coming 18 months.  Preferred demographics include a population of 60,000 within three miles earning $80,000 as the average household income.  The company will also consider 10,000 sq. ft. in urban markets for its Wild By Nature concept. 
Spartan Stores is planning for two to four openings throughout MI during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run 15 to 20 years.  Specific improvements are required.  A land area of seven to 10 acres is required for freestanding locations.   
Wakefern Food Corp. is seeking growth opportunities throughout VA during the coming 18 months.  Typical leases run 10 years with four, five- to six- year options.  The company requires a land area of at least three acres for ground-up locations and prefers to locate second-generation spaces. Preferred cotenants include A.J. Wright, Home Depot, Lowe’s Home Improvement, T.J. Maxx, Aaron’s and Family Dollar.  Preferred demographics include a population of 70,000 within five miles earning $25,000 to $50,000 as the median household income. 
Home Center and Hardware Industry Real Estate eUpdates:

National Supply & Hardware closed its store at 3555 S. Howell Ave.  National recently sold the building to a developer who plans to a Dollar Tree store in the 14,000-square-foot space.  All nine Howell Ave. employees are being offered jobs at National’s other two stores, 1303 N. 4th St. and 1310 W. Burnham St.
Apparel Specialty Store and Department Store Real Estate eUpdates:

Dick’s Sporting Goods continues its expansion with 4 new stores in OH and MI.
Donna Karan Intl. Inc. opened an Urban Zen store in Los Angeles, CA.
Elie Tahari recently opened two new shops. The boutique inside Neiman Marcus at the North
Park Centerin Dallas, TX measures 1,100 sq. ft. The 2,700 sq. ft. standalone Elie Tahari store is the company’s first-ever freestanding store in Texas.
Saks plans to close its 20,000 sq. ft. Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th store in Triangle Factory Outlets in Morrisville, NC. Recently, the company opened a 30,000 sq. ft. Off 5th location in Mebane, NC, in 2010, which will serve as a replacement store for the closing location.
The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. opened two new stores: a Carson‘s store in Kokomo, IN, and a Herberger’s store in the greater Minneapolisarea. The one-level, 60,000 sq. ft. Carson‘s store will be located at the Kokomo Mall. The new tri-level, 135,000 sq. ft. Herberger’s store will be located at the Southdale Center in Edina, MN.
The Timberland Co. plans to open it’s first-ever Minneapolis retail location. Situated at 3001 Hennepin Ave.—as part of the Calhoun Squareshopping area in the Uptown district—the new 2,000 sq. ft. space opens on Nov. 18, 2011.

AFC Enterprises, Inc. (dba Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen) announced the launch of an aggressive growth plan to increase its presence in southern CA and is seeking franchisees in Los Angeles and San Diego.
Auntie Anne’s is currently seeking aspiring entrepreneurs who want to serve up fresh, hand-rolled gourmet pretzels as a rewarding business venture for new locations in Arizona, California, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.. Auntie Anne’s locations can be found in malls, outlet centers, and “non-traditional venues” including colleges and universities and transportation sites such as airports, train stations, and travel plazas.
Boloco plans to add six restaurants between now and the end of next year, including at least two in MA.
Buffalo Wild Wings expects to meet its goal of operating 1,000 Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants in North America in 2013; it currently has around 800 locations.
Checkers Drive-In Restaurants plans to add 30 Rally’s locations in Central IN within the next few years.
Corner Bakery Cafe announced its most recent franchise deal to bring seven locations to the South Texasregion in less than five years.
Dunkin’ Donuts has 86 new restaurants slated for development in the Washington, D.C., market by 2020.
Hurricane Grill & Wings has a development agreement for 10 restaurants in ALover the next eight years.
Jersey Mike’s Subs opens its 30th market with its first store in the state of LA.
McDonald’s plans to add 12 new stores in the metro Atlantamarket this year.
Newk’s Express Café opened its 40th restaurant in Hot Springs, AR, the first location for that state. Newk’s also has signed an agreement to open five restaurants in VA, including one in Lynchburg, with the first expected to open in October 2012; other locations will be in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Roanoke and Blacksburg/Christiansburg.
TCBY formed a 10-year area developer agreement that will result in 23 TCBY self-serve locations in NC and SC within the next three years, with two stores to open in Charlotte by the end of 2011.
